Jack Richeson Casein Paint 148ml TITANIUM WHITE

Casein (kay'seen) is a fast-drying, aqueous medium that uses a milk-based binder and is one of the most durable mediums known to man.

Known for their versatility and wide range of possibilities, casein paints can be used to create a wide variety of effects, from the rich opaques of oil to thin watercolor washes. Because casein has exceptional color integrity and always dries to a perfect matte finish, it is unmatched for fine art reproduction.

Helpful tips for caseins

Choose a solid, non-oily surface for your work

Lay down correct character and value patterns with a thin underpainting

Dilute caseins with water to create washes and transparent glazes.

Casein paints, especially reds, oranges and yellows, tend to change after drying.

Lighten colors by adding more water or brighten by adding powder pigments

To correct an area that is too dark, cover it with a more opaque layer of a lighter color

If working on a gessoed plate, correct any mistakes with an eraser or a 1:9 ammonia-water mixture
