Wooden Stretchers
We aim to offer our customers the highest quality. That is why we manufacture our stretcher bars from 100% pine wood sourced from Polish forests. Unlike other manufacturers, we deliberately use wood that has not been de-resined, as it is less prone to absorbing moisture and, consequently, less likely to warp. Although pine wood containing its natural resin is slightly heavier, in our experience, it offers significantly greater stability. To further ensure this stability, we do not produce bars with a depth of less than 20 mm; experience has shown that frames with a depth of 15–18 mm warp more easily.
Stretcher bars with profiles K2845, K4045, K2560, and K4570 feature a slot for a crossbar starting at a length of 50 cm, and a double slot starting at 200 cm. Profiles K65, K6570, and K10070 feature a single slot starting at 60 cm, a double slot at 2 m, a triple slot at 300 cm, and a quadruple slot at 400 cm. The same applies to the crossbars. Please contact us regarding oversized dimensions and available profiles.
The following standards apply to the frame sizes:
- up to 50 x 50 cm without center piece
- 60 x 60 cm to 90 x 90 cm: one center piece
- 100 x 100 cm to 195 x 195 cm simple cross
For molding lengths of 2 meters or more, we recommend a double-cross configuration—that is, one center piece along the longer side and two center pieces along the shorter side of the moldings.
- 2 x 2 m to 2.90 x 2.90 m double-double cross
- 3 x 3 m to 3.90 x 3.90 m 3x3 center sections
- 4 x 4 m to 4.90 x 4.90 m four-by-four center sections
Other special features:
All bars in profile sizes K2845, K2035, K4045, K2045, and K2060 consist of interlocking wooden components and feature a rounded edge.
Profile sizes K2770, K4570, K6570, and K10070 are made of multiple glued layers, making them exceptionally stable—a particular advantage for large-format frames. Thanks to their sharp edge, these profiles provide greater clearance between the canvas and the bar after stretching.

Accordingly, further middle pieces should be added so that 2 of them interlock at each slot, forming a cross and thus stabilizing the frame. Matching slots are worked into the wedge frames to anchor the ends of the corresponding centre pieces there. The length of the center element should correspond to the length of the sidebar. Our circles are made of plywood and have a standard depth of 18mm, i. e. 15mm plus 3mm edge. Other depths are possible at any time, for example 36mm or 45mm. We are happy to add additional centerpieces or crosses for oversized circles and ovals. We also offer a canvas stretching service for our circles. Of course we also produce framing for the circles in our own workshop. The frames are made of MDF board for the standard depth of 18cm and up to a size of 80cm. We do not recommend larger framing, otherwise it’s susceptible to break in our experience. Special features circles Depending on the production method, the circles have a width of 4cm (smaller formats), which are made of one piece of wood or 5cm (larger formats), which were glued together. Our smallest circle has a diameter of 12cm. With the maximum size there’s almost no limits to your ideas. Whether 2m, 2.50m or 3m, we gladly manufacture your desired size. Price examples can be found in our online shop.

Our ovals are made of blockboard * and have a standard depth of 18mm, i. e. 15mm plus 3mm edge. Other depths are possible at any time, for example 36mm or 45mm. Unlike the circles, the depth of production is 6cm on the long sides of the ovals and 4cm on the shorter sides. Our smallest ovals have a width of 12cm and a length of 14cm. With the maximum size there’s almost no limits to your ideas. Whether 2m, 2.50m or 3m, we gladly manufacture your desired size. Price examples can be found in our online shop. *Blockboard is very light due to its low density and dimensionally stable even under fluctuating climatic conditions, it’s rigid and has a high endurance, i.e. deforms only a little.

Please order https://peters-art.de/de/malgruende/keilrahmen/holz-keilrahmen/910/keile-standard-kiefer-100-stueck?number=10864 If you require an additional bracing, please combine the frame with the cross bars K30: https://peters-art.de/en/painting-supports/stretchers/wooden-stretchers/32/keilrahmen-mittelstueck-k30-1-8-x-4-5cm?number=10032The stretcher frame has a 1-fold slit from a side length of 50 cm up to a side length of 195 cm and a 2-fold slit from a side length of 200 cm.Advice on bracing:Under a side length of 1m no middle bars are needed. If one side length exceeds 1m, one middle bar of the shorter side length is sufficient. If both sides are more than 1m long, you need one bar per side length (a simple cross). If one side is more than 2m long, you need two middle pieces of the shorter side and one of the long side (single double cross). If both sides are more than 2m long, the stretcher bars are each double slotted, so you need two middle bars per side length (double double cross).
