"L'AQUARELLE"
"L'aquarelle" Sennelier found its origins in the school of the Impressionists.
The Impressionists were inspired by nature and tried to depict natural light. Watercolor offered them the spontaneity, lightness, washability and transparency they needed to sense and capture light, vibrations and shapes. Cézanne, for example, painted around 40 watercolors of Mount Sainte Victoire. Before that, first in England and then in France on the Normandy coast, Turner developed watercolor into a painting technique in its own right, resulting in masterpieces. Since then, watercolor has found its place in the history of great painters. Artists appreciate watercolor for its luminosity, spontaneity and the joy it gives them when they play with the light of the paper and the bright, vibrant, intense pigments that run, find each other and swirl under their brush to create the most varied effects.
A watercolor that meets the needs of today's artists
Sennelier's extra-fine watercolor is the result of a long collaboration with many artists. Sennelier interviewed watercolor painters from all over the world to learn about their habits and expectations. Several formulas were tested "blind" by a group of professional watercolor painters. This test clearly identified what they wanted: a bright, brilliant and intense watercolor. Sennelier's extra-fine watercolor meets these expectations.
A honey-based watercolor
Honey has many beneficial properties. Honey, a symbol of the sun and purity, a sign of science and poetry, has been used since ancient times to beautify the skin and heal wounds. SENNELIER's extra-fine watercolor contains not only preservatives but also nectar, which gives it an incomparable softness and luminosity. In the search for excellence, Sennelier has developed a watercolor that contains more honey to improve the durability of the colors and give them even more shine and luminosity.
Handcrafted in France.
Sennelier watercolors have been made on the same basis for a century: high-quality pigments are selected and a binding agent of the highest quality, gum arabic from Kordofan. This mixture of noble products guarantees colors with a creamy, brilliant texture, as well as lively and colorful nuances. The gum arabic and honey ensure impeccable quality when applied and allow the creation of wonderful watercolor paintings using the wash technique. This creamy base is mixed with the pigments and then carefully crushed. Sennelier moistens the pigments with purified water (without mineral salts) for 24 hours before adding them to the binder. This prior moistening leads to a better bond between the paint and the binder, so that the colors appear fuller.
Sennelier watercolors are ground in the traditional way. The grinding is done slowly so that the paste does not heat up, which could affect the purity of the color. This process takes place in several steps until maximum fineness is achieved. Then the particles that could affect the perfection of the glazes are removed.
With this exceptional, very high quality watercolor, you can give your works even more power with the vibrancy and purity of the colors. The colors mix perfectly with each other, creating wonderful nuances. These creamy and intense colors are a joy to apply. Thanks to the honey, your Sennelier watercolor tubes and pans will last a long time and you will always find the colors you need to faithfully interpret the different light and shape impressions.
