Product information "wooden canvas floater frame"
A canvas floater is a frame that leaves a small gap between the canvas and the frame to enhance the effect of the painting. It is ideal for framing covered stretcher frames, which are usually used for oil paintings. The canvas floater frames the painting at a distance of 5 mm.
Our partner workshop in Poland produces the frames from Meranti - a light but very robust tropical wood. For formats over 1 metre we use Dark Red Meranti, which has similar strength properties to oak. For smaller formats up to 1 meter we use the slightly less expensive Light Red Meranti to achieve a good price-quality ratio. We can also produce canvas floaters from harder woods, such as oak or beech, upon customer request.
