Aluminium stearate
whitish, waxy powder Aluminium stearate is colourless in oil and thickened in oil paints to form a gel. Adding a few percent reduces the dripping of the paint and gives it a buttery consistency. In tube paints, aluminium stearate prevents the separation of pigment and oil, and in lacquer paints it thickens considerably. It can be mixed with linseed oil to form a concentrate that can be added to the finished paint.
